CHEMFIX ANTI-RUST

Corrosion Protection & Rust-Inhibiting Treatment for Reinforcement Steel

CHEMFIX ANTI RUST is a specialized corrosion-protection treatment designed to help protect reinforcement steel and other suitable ferrous metal surfaces against rust and corrosion.

It is suitable for use on reinforcement bars, steel surfaces and metal components where corrosion protection is required before concrete placement, repair or other construction activities.

CHEMFIX ANTI RUST helps create a protective barrier on the treated metal surface, reducing the risk of further corrosion when properly applied and incorporated into a suitable construction system.

It is particularly useful for reinforcement steel repair, concrete rehabilitation, structural repair and maintenance works.

CHEMFIX ANTI RUST may be evaluated using internationally recognized corrosion-protection and reinforcement-steel test methods, depending on the intended application.

EN 1504 Series

EN 1504 covers products and systems for the protection and repair of concrete structures.

—

Uses

CHEMFIX ANTI RUST is suitable for:

1. Reinforcement Steel Protection

For protecting reinforcement bars from further corrosion during concrete repair and construction activities.

2. Concrete Repair

Suitable for reinforcement steel exposed during removal of damaged or deteriorated concrete.

3. Structural Rehabilitation

For corrosion-protection treatment of reinforcement steel during rehabilitation of reinforced-concrete structures.

4. Rusted Reinforcement

Can be used after appropriate mechanical or chemical removal of loose rust and corrosion products.

5. Bridges & Infrastructure

Suitable for reinforcement protection during repair and maintenance of bridges, culverts and other concrete infrastructure.

6. Buildings

For reinforcement treatment during repair of beams, columns, slabs, balconies and other reinforced-concrete elements.

7. Steel & Metal Components

Can be evaluated for suitable ferrous-metal surfaces where corrosion protection is required.

—

Benefits & Advantages

Corrosion Protection

Helps protect treated reinforcement steel against further corrosion.

Easy Application

Can be applied to properly prepared steel surfaces using suitable application methods.

Suitable for Concrete Repair

Particularly useful when reinforcement becomes exposed during concrete repair and rehabilitation.

Protective Surface Treatment

Helps form a protective layer on the treated metal surface.

Helps Extend Service Life

Effective corrosion-control treatment, combined with proper concrete repair, can contribute to improved durability of reinforced-concrete structures.

Suitable for Maintenance Works

Useful for repair and maintenance projects involving corroded reinforcement.

Construction-Site Friendly

Designed for practical application during reinforcement repair and concrete rehabilitation works.

Application Method

Step 1 – Remove Damaged Concrete

Remove all loose, cracked and deteriorated concrete around the exposed reinforcement.

Expose sufficient reinforcement around the complete circumference where practical.

Step 2 – Clean the Reinforcement

Remove loose rust, scale, dirt, oil and other contaminants from the steel surface.

Mechanical cleaning using a suitable wire brush, abrasive tool or other approved method may be used according to the project requirements.

For heavily corroded reinforcement, additional cleaning or replacement assessment may be necessary.

Step 3 – Prepare the Surface

The reinforcement should be clean and free from loose corrosion products before applying CHEMFIX ANTI RUST.

Remove dust and debris from the prepared surface.

Step 4 – Apply CHEMFIX ANTI RUST

Apply CHEMFIX ANTI RUST uniformly over the prepared reinforcement using a suitable:

– Brush
– Roller
– Spray equipment

Ensure complete coverage of the exposed steel surface.

Step 5 – Allow to Cure

Allow the treatment to cure/dry according to the product-specific TDS and prevailing site conditions.

Step 6 – Repair Concrete

After the treatment has reached the required condition, apply the approved bonding agent, repair mortar or micro-concrete according to the repair system specification.

Compatibility

CHEMFIX ANTI RUST should be compatible with properly prepared reinforcement steel and suitable cementitious repair systems, subject to product-specific testing.

It may be evaluated for use with:

– Reinforcement steel bars
– Cementitious repair mortars
– Micro-concrete
– Repair concrete
– Bonding systems
– Compatible anti-corrosion repair systems

Precautions

– Wear protective gloves, goggles and suitable protective clothing.
– Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
– Do not ingest the product.
– Ensure adequate ventilation during application.
– Remove loose rust, scale, oil, grease and contaminants before application.
– Do not apply over loose or unstable corrosion products.
– Do not dilute unless specifically instructed in the latest TDS.
– Do not mix with other chemicals unless compatibility has been confirmed.
– Keep treated reinforcement protected from contamination before applying the repair material.
– Do not apply repair concrete/mortar until the treated surface has reached the required condition specified in the TDS.
– Conduct a small-area trial when using the product with an unfamiliar repair system.
– Follow the latest CHEMFIX TDS and SDS before use.

—

Storage

Store CHEMFIX ANTI RUST:

– In the original, tightly sealed container.
– In a cool and dry place.
– Away from direct sunlight.
– Protected from excessive heat and freezing conditions.
– Away from incompatible chemicals.
– Keep containers tightly closed when not in use.

Avoid contamination of the product during storage and application.

Shelf Life: Refer to the batch label and latest CHEMFIX TDS for the manufacturer’s declared shelf life.
